3-Year Postdoctoral Posts in World History (incl. Japanese and Chinese history, archeology)

The Faculty of History, Nankai University (Jinnan Campus), Tianjin, is seeking to appointment outstanding historians with doctoral qualifications in a number of fields of World History including Japanese history, Chinese history, and archeology. Applicants should be under 35 years of age at the time of taking up the appointment which will be, in the first instance, for three years, with the possibility of a further extension. They should already have demonstrated their ability through publications in leading journals in their respective field.

The successful candidate will have completed his/her PhD and possess an emerging research profile. Successful candidates should, ideally, have some teaching experience. The Faculty of History is particularly interested in candidates with a research profile located in European history.

1. Subject Area: World history (including Japanese history, staff to be based in Institute of Japanese Studies), Chinese History, Archeology; candidates with specialisms in European history are especially welcome.

2. Applicant requirements

(1) Compliance with the law, professional ethics, excellent overall scholarly record.

(2) He/she will have obtained a doctoral degree in history or a related subject at a leading university in China or overseas completed within the last three years.

(3) No older than 35 years of age.

(4) Candidates with teaching experience are preferred.

(6) Candidates will have published papers in leading journals (CSSCI, SSCI, A&HCI or ERIH listed journals are preferred).

(7) In the case of candidates from world-leading universities, fewer papers may be required, if other areas of achievement can be demonstrated (e.g. an excellent PhD manuscript).

3.    {C}Benefits and conditions of service

(1) According to Nankai University's remuneration standard for early career staff (intermediate level), successful candidates will receive the standard remuneration, and can also apply to receive the settlement fee subsidy according to relevant policies of Tianjin. Salary is likely to be in the region of 200,000 RMB per annum.

(2) According to the outcome of the annual assessment, a performance reward package will be provided by the college and subject groups.

(3) Post-holders can apply for a housing subsidy from Nankai University, according to the "Interim Measures for the Management of Housing for Early Career Staff of Nankai University".

(4) Post-holders’ children can be granted admission to the nursery school, and enroll in primary school and receive other benefits in the school system.

(5) After admittance as a post-doctoral researcher, the school supports mid-level professional and research positions and offers postdoctoral career development opportunities such as funding applications, funding for research abroad, and project applications.

(6) After the end of the employment period, qualified teachers/researchers can apply for permanent posts in the Faculty.
